Welcome to Miners' Choir Genk

‘Het Genker Mijnwerkerskoor’ has still another goal: putting the miner as a person on a pedestal. In doing so, the choir would on the one hand like to remind young people the different ways in which mining and miners have made a difference in society and on the other hand, the choir would like to thank all the miners who have received much from the mining industry, but who have certainly given very much as well. The miners have made a prosperous Belgium possible but in doing so, have suffered much themselves…

The choir’s repertory exists mainly of regional songs about the ‘heimat’, old and new miner’s songs and classical songs arranged for several voices, by Verdi, Mozart, J. Brahms and Schubert. Besides that, the repertoire includes modern music by Vangelis and Willy Appermont, for example.

The choir is usually accompanied by two accordion players and two guitarists. A very well known Belgian pianist-composer, W. Appermont, joins the choir on special occasions. Since 1988, the ‘Genker Mijnwerkerskoor’ has recorded and released 1MC, 4 CD’s and 2 DVD's.
